Overview of Dholera New International Airport

The Dholera International Airport is strategically planned in the northern region of the Dholera Special Investment Region (DSIR). This upcoming world-class airport is designed not only to serve the fast-growing DSIR and its surrounding areas but also to handle the increasing air traffic overflow from the existing Ahmedabad International Airport.

A total of 1,426 hectares has been earmarked for the airport development. The project includes the construction of two runways, designed to handle wide-bodied, long-haul aircraft such as the Airbus A380.

With Ahmedabad Airport experiencing one of the highest annual growth rates in passenger traffic, it is expected to reach full capacity much earlier than anticipated. Due to limited scope for expansion at the existing facility, the development of a new international airport at Dholera has become essential to meet future air traffic demands.

While evaluating the potential and infrastructure needs of Dholera SIR, the government recognized the significant demand for a Greenfield International Airport in the region. Given the scale of economic activity anticipated driven by substantial domestic and international investments a world-class, modern international airport is essential to support the area's growth.

As a result, the Government of Gujarat has included the airport development among its list of "Early Bird Projects", in collaboration with the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT). Additionally, the state has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMICDC) to move this crucial infrastructure initiative forward.
